| Afternoon Adventures |
| "Read it again!" is the plea
when a child and a story connect. His giggles, her sighs, the
absolute stillness and the way he inches closer confirms that a
book is a "read it again" story. Each day your
child's afternoon adventure will focus on a variety of
literature-based activities that include math, art, science, reading,
and cooking experiences. Join the fun for PK and K students. |
| K-5 Jump Start Swimming and Diving Camp |
| Dive in! Designed for the student who can
already swim, this camp has proven to be a wonderful introduction to
"competitive" swimming and diving. After eating
lunch with their instructors, they proceed to the pool area where
instruction and coaching begin. Video presentations and
actual demonstrations are utilized for both sports. This
course is based on the United States Diving "Dive Safe"
program. |
| Art |
| What color is your imagination?
Summer Art offers students the chance to explore their imagination and
creativity through a variety of projects. Summer artists will
make original works of art while learning exciting techniques and
using different kinds of media. Activities will include
sculpture, painting, drawing, and other hands-on experiences. |
| Science 2004: Discover and Learn |
| Join us for a fun-filled, hands-on
afternoon in a science lab setting. The children will
participate in a
variety of experiments involving biology, chemistry, and physical science.
Investigating tropical birds and a visit from the Einstein
Experience will be included in our exciting afternoons of discovery! |
| New Student Spanish |
¡Viva el español!
Students new to Pine Crest and starting in Grades 4 and 5 will learn the
four keys of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and
writing, as well as developing an understanding and appreciation of
the Spanish culture. This two-week introduction helps
make for a smooth transition into our
classes. |
| Skill Builders |
| Skill Builder for Grades 2 and 3:
Meets individual needs for reading, language, and math skills.
The students refresh last year's skills in preparation for the
upcoming fall. Building around a common theme, students are involved in research,
reading, and writing. As students receive
intensive practice in spelling, writing, reading, and math, they gain the confidence to begin the year
with the skills they will need to get them off to a strong
start. They also familiarize themselves with school
procedures, make new friends, and meet teachers. |
| Language Arts for Grades 4 and 5:
The Write Stuff! Learn how mastery of language arts basics
leads to better written expression. Using the Six-Trait
Writing Model, students will learn how to develop competency in the
areas of ideas and content, word choice, fluency, voice, organization,
and conventions. Breaking down each trait into manageable parts will
help students develop skills they can use for a lifetime. |
| Math for grades 4 and 5: Jump
start your math! Small groups rotate
through math activity stations using games, manipulatives, and
teacher-led activities. Computers are used to reinforce math
skills and concepts. Near the end of each day, the class will
come together in a whole-group activity covering skills or concepts
in geometry, measurement, or probability through hands-on projects. |
