This webquest is designed to help you learn a little more about Women’s soccer, and the process of becoming a skilled soccer player. Not only will you be able to view soccer through the eyes of a professional player, but you will also gain some knowledge of what it is like to be a qualified coach, and a reporter. Knowing how to play is just as important as knowing about soccer; I hope you have fun.

Just remember to keep your eye on the final goal!

The Quest

What is it really like to work in the Women's Soccer League?

Introduction | The Task | The Process & Resources | Conclusion

The Process and Resources

1)This webquest requires a group of 3 people. The 1st step is to pick your group.

2)After you have picked your group, it would be a good idea to gain some general information about soccer, women's college teams, and how to write a newspaper article.

3)The next step would be choosing 1 of 3 roles. You can either be the professional women's soccer player, a professional women's coach, or a journalist who writes about women's soccer.

Phase 1 - Background: Something for Everyone

The internet links below should be used to answer some soccer questions about the Women's National Team:

Phase 2 - Looking Deeper from Different Perspectives

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Once you have decided on whose going to be in your group, it is time to decide what role you will be playing. Below is a list of roles to pick from, only one person per role.

2.Above is list of resources. They will be helpful in answering your questions.

3. Remember: don't copy anything from the internet word for word. Plagiarism is against the law.

4.In the end you will have to combine all of your information, so it would be helpful to gain much information about your role.

Women's soccer player

-What you will need to do for this role is make a Microsoft Word biography on the professional female soccer player you choose. It doesn't have to be a current player on the team, though it would probably be easier.
1) Some questions that you will need to answer are as follows: where this person was born, what college they went to, what did they major in, how old are they now/when did they die/when were they born, are they still playing soccer, what was/is their position on the National Team, and what was their mother/father/siblings names... It would also be beneficial if you included some pictures of the player.

Soccer Coach

-Contrary to some believes, being a Women's soccer coach isn't easy. What you will need to do is research the Internet for Women's college teams. You are looking for future Women's National Team members.
-In a Microsoft Word document, you will need to pick a college player (female), and write a paragraph on why this person would be an asset to the team. (Some biographical information on the player you chose is needed)
1) Some of the questions you will want to answer are what position does this person play, what college do they go to, what grade are they in (ex. they are a senior), how old are they...
- You will also need (in a Microsoft Word document) to pretend to be one of the coaches from the Women's National Team. You will write a biography on yourself (meaning the coach).
1) Some of the questions you will want to answer are how old is the coach, how long have they been coaching (in general), how long have they been coaching on the women's national team, what college did they go to, did they ever play soccer, how old are they, where were they born (what state/city), what are their family members names (mom, dad, siblings)...

News reporter

Because you are a news reporter, you will be writing an article on Microsoft Word. Pick either a women's college player, professional player, or a coach and write an article on them that could be published in a newspaper.
1) Some of the questions you will want to answer are how old is the person you picked, how long have they been playing/coaching soccer, what college did they/ do they go to, if they are still in college: what are they majoring in...

Phase 3 - Debating, Discussing, and Reaching Consensus

Now that you have finished learning about your individual parts of soccer, it would be a good idea if you and your teammates got together and talked about the different roles a person can play in Women's soccer.

Phase 4 - Real World Feedback

Once you have finished gathering your thoughts together with your team, you'll write a Microsoft Word document that includes your information, thoughts, and opinions about Women's soccer.
