Basics
- Reading Counts is a
reading incentive program. Reading Counts supplements
Reading Workshop.
Books read for Reading Counts are to be
included on students'
Reading Logs.
- The goal for the Reading
Counts program is that students find success and enjoyment in reading
and apply library skills in the process.
- Students choose appropriate
Reading Counts books, read the
books completely and carefully,
and take computerized quizzes. Quizzes should only be taken
on books just
finished.
- The library staff will provide students with
information and assistance.
DDC, Millionaires, TDC
- Double Digit
Club (DDC) is an expectation for each 2nd-5th grade student
whereby students
read 10 Reading Counts books
appropriate for their reading level and pass quizzes on
them with
an overall average of 80%+.
- DDC members receive lapel pins for
their blazers and ring
the DDC bell during library class.
- After reaching
the expectation of DDC, students can set their own Reading
Counts goals.
- Millionaires
(1,000,000 words) and Triple Digit Club (100 books) are
possible long-range goals
in students' Reading Logs and/or through their participation
in Reading Counts. Double Digit Club
in Reading Counts is a prerequisite for Millionaires or TDC
in Reading Log or Reading Counts.
