Pine Crest students learn how to access a wealth of
knowledge and learning resources in our libraries.
The Hudson Library which serves students
and teachers in the Lower School and Pre-Primary Department has
recently been renovated and the expansion doubled its size and
seating capacity.

Grades seven through twelve make constant use of the
Egan Library, which was completed in April 1999. This Middle and
Upper School facility, located in the Huizenga Family Science Center,
encompasses 12,000 square feet of working space. Its spectacular
two-story reading and reference hall overlooks a landscaped reading
patio. The new library, twice the size of the old facility, has
seating for classes, small groups, and individual study. All
tables and study carrels are equipped with task lighting and are
wired for network access and power. A wireless hub allows
students with wireless cards access to the Internet and printers.

The collection is comprised of 40,000 volumes and an
extensive inventory of video and audio tapes, microfiche and
film. All are accessed via the electronic card catalogue
(OPAC). The Egan Library also has an online research lab for
database searching and archival research from the 1920's. A
second online lab is set up for video conferencing, graphic
arts, and web design.
Networked databases such as Exploring Poetry, SIRS
Researcher, World Book Encyclopedia as well as WWW subscriptions to
full text journals and newspaper articles further expand student
access to information.
For students living at home, the Pine Crest Upper School Library web page
(http://www.pinecrest.edu/us/library) is a pointer to resources proven
to be useful in research. In addition to links to full text
sources such as encyclopedias, journals, and newspapers, the
library provides online access to Proquest Direct, SIRS, Lexis Nexis,
Literature Online and Electric Library.
